Dr. John Hite, Psy.D., M.Ed., NCSP

Dr. John Hite is a school psychologist with over 20 years of experience providing psychological and educational services for children, adolescents, and families with complex developmental, learning, and emotional needs. At Arbit Counseling, he provides collaborative care, comprehensive evaluations, and tailored consultation to help children thrive.

Dr. Hite specializes in psychological evaluation and developmental consultation for children ages two and up. His areas of expertise include the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism, ADHD, and learning disorders like dyslexia, as well as emotional and behavioral concerns like anxiety and depression that affect functioning at home and in school.

With a strengths-based, research-informed approach, Dr. Hite is committed to translating assessment findings into practical, meaningful support for families, educators, and other providers. Dr. Hite provides psychoeducational evaluations at Arbit Counseling D.C. Office as a licensed psychology associate under the supervision of Dr. Anna Rosch, PsyD.

In addition to assessments, Dr. Hite provides special education consulting services in his role as an education consultant. These services are done via telehealth nationally and internationally, and in person in Washington, DC.

Comprehensive Care

Dr. Hite works with children (age 2+), adolescents, and families seeking answers about learning, development, and emotional well-being.

He supports families navigating concerns in the home, school, or clinical setting—including those pursuing services through public schools, private schools, or specialized therapeutic placements. He also collaborates with educators, pediatricians, and specialists involved in a child’s care.

Process

  • Typically spans about two months from referral to final report

  • 60 to 90 minute parent intake to gather history and review prior reports

  • Classroom observation and teacher collaboration

  • 4 to 10 hours of direct assessment based on the child’s needs

  • Comprehensive report delivered in about four weeks

  • Feedback meeting with individualized recommendations and next steps
