How Do I "Feel" My Feelings? A Free Exercise to Help You Tune In

Child practicing an exercise to feel their feelings

If you have ever left a difficult conversation feeling numb, caught yourself immediately analyzing an emotion instead of sitting with it, or noticed that "how does that make you feel?" is a question that makes you freeze, you are not alone. Many of us were never taught how to actually feel our feelings. We were taught to manage them, push through them, or explain them away. But emotional processing, the kind that actually creates healing, begins with learning to stay present with what is arising in the body and mind without immediately trying to fix it.

This practice is at the heart of somatic therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, and trauma-informed care. It sounds simple. It is also one of the most profound things you can do for your mental health.

We created this short guided exercise to help you begin. Whether you are brand new to emotional awareness work or you simply need a gentle reminder to slow down, we hope this feels like a helpful place to start.
